AKHS, A provides health care services mainly on behalf of the government including the Ministry of Public Health’s of Afghanistan’s Basic Package of Health Services (BPHS) and Essential Package of Hospital Services (EPHS). AKHS, A is unique both in scale and scope, delivering critical health services along the continuum of care, from Community Health Workers (CHWs) to ISO certified hospital facilities.

Since 2003 AKHS, A is implementing Healthcare services in Bamyan, Baghlan and Badakhshan provinces. The agency’s scope of work includes the provision of primary and secondary Healthcare, Preventive and curative medical care, Nursing and Midwifery education,

Human Resources Development and Hospital Management. The current working modality and role of AKHS, A in Bamyan and Badakhshan provinces as BPHS and EPHS implementer. AKHS, A provides technical support as well as capacity building of health personnel, immunization services, nutrition trainings and the training of Community Health Nurses and Community Health Midwifery.

AKHS, A tapped into internal and other donor fundings to continue supplementary and complementary supports to the national health system. Moreover, AKHS, A scale up AKDN innovations, including, expansions of e-Health services, e-learning initiatives, and cross border arrangements. To promote healthy environment, AKHS, A is implementing net zero and greenhouse gas emission.

General Responsibilities:

• Overall management of internal medicine department.
• Conduct daily ward rounds for support to MDs, observation, and review of patients.
• Support the post graduate medical education programme as trainer.
• Run specialist clinics on a regular basis.
• Regularly monitor patients’ progress and provide documentation.
• Attend to emergency cases when necessary and be on 24 hrs call.
• Carry out emergency medical procedures.

• Carry out routine medical procedures.
• Ensure complete daily documentation of patient case notes/files.
• Ensure complete discharge, referral, and feedback procedures for patients.
• Counsel patients and relatives on health management.
• Maintain regular contacts with heads of other departments to ensure harmonization of patients’ management.
• Review and develop appropriate policies and procedures for patients’ health care to formulate best practice guidelines based on EPHS.

• Ensure timely availability of required support services in the process of treating patients, particularly when referred to other specialists.
• Liaise with other consultants on handling specialized cases in provision of patients’ health care.
• Prepare timely and accurate medical reports, audits, and mortality reviews.
• Ensure quality procedures and clinical audit implementation.
• Ensure medical records activities are effectively implemented.
• Teach other health care providers/MDs about specific techniques of medicine services.
• Ensure effective management of wards, OPD clinics and other units of relevant clinical departments.
• Observe and comply with
•  environmental health, occupational safety and Infection Prevention measures and regulations.
• Create, uphold, and promote a positive hospital image.
• Provide professional guidance to facilitate growth and development of the Doctors and institution.
• Initiate and participate in clinical research activities.

• Participate in clinical governance, medical and clinical audit activities.
• Ensure effective utilization of resources.
• Motivate, coach and counsel staff.
• Develop staff to enable them to achieve their objectives.
• Ensure participation of all subordinates
• Initiate and assure completion of actions.

• Work with subordinates to establish effective managerial control through delegation and coordination.
• Stimulate achievement and evaluate performance on a regular basis.
• Work effectively with superiors, peers, and subordinates.
• Maintain a warm and friendly relationship with employees, associates, customers, and suppliers.
• Maintain an atmosphere of acceptance and support within the department.

Education:

• Medical Doctor (Male/Female) With Post Graduate certificate (specialty training program) from a reputable institution.
• Master trainer from Post graduate program of pediatric field is highly preferred.

Experience: At least 3 years of experience working as internal medicine specialist.

Technical Skills:

• Having basic surgical skills will be an advantage.

• Experience in training other Drs, Midwives and Nurses

Other Skills: Bamyan local or willingness to stay in Bamyan for a long time.

Willingness to do on call duties after closing hour.

Personal Characteristics: Flexible team worker.
